Does the Government Buy What You Sell?

What do you think the government buys? Do you have even the slightest idea?

The government buys all types of products and services. ( e.g. grains, cleaning services, cranes, diapers, IT support, software electronics, yes, even milk pickles and crayons.)  If it's purchasable, then more than likely the government will buy it. Think of the things that you use and need on a regular basis--Furniture, clothing, gas, electric, cups, comb, brush, etc.  Well, the government uses and needs these items as well.  That's why they have a "centralized Wal-mart" called GSA or General Services Administration. GSA is the Wal-mart to most of the agencies within the Federal Government. When they have a need for something, this is where they come to shop.

Now that you know Uncle Sam buys what you sell, you would like to know how to sell it to Him, right? A good thing to do first is to find the NAICS code of the product or service that you sell.  NAICS ( pronounced like Na-SIS) stands for North American Industry Classification System. The purpose of NAICS is ...

"The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is the standard used by Federal statistical agencies in classifying business establishments for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy."

NAICS is to businesses as the census bureau is to people.  When you visit the NAICS website, you enter the keyword of what you sell and you will get a series of numbers. This is your NAICS code.  Being that we sell medical equipment, supplies and pharmaceuticals, we have several NAICS codes.  Some are 423450, 423490, 446199, etc. Be sure that your NAICS codes are accurate. If they are not, it could prove to do more harm than good. Some businesses have more than one because they sell different products and services.
